What would it take to change Selena Gomez’s single relationship status? Someone truly exceptional, Gomez revealed during an interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 LA this week. The “Single Soon” singer listed out what she looks for in a partner.

She was first asked in the interview about the lyric in “Single Soon” about her being “a little high-maintenance.”

“I think I have standards,” she clarified. “And I think I live in a world right now where boys confuse standards with high-maintenance. It really isn’t [the same thing]. But the line was really fun because I’m not ashamed to say, ‘I actually require x, y, and z for you to be with me.’ So in a way, it was just meant to be for the attitude of the song. And that’s genuinely how I feel.”

As for what those traits are, Gomez said, “I mean you gotta be cool, man. Not cool in the sense that people think you’re cool. You just gotta be nice and like, please make me laugh and also just be good to my family and people around you.”

A source spoke to Entertainment Tonight in December 2020 about other qualities Gomez looks for in a partner. “The qualities that stand out to her in terms of a potential boyfriend are confident, supportive, smart, funny, trustworthy, and reliable,” the source said.

Gomez’s last public relationship was with on-off ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber in 2018. The singer has been linked to other people since then, including Zayn Malik briefly in the spring, but has not been involved in anything long-term to the public’s knowledge.
