Prince Harry is ready to tell the (even fuller) story, as Penguin Random House announced today that it had acquired a forthcoming memoir from the Duke of Sussex, in which the prince “will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses and life lessons that have helped shape him.” The book is due to be published in late 2022.
The memoir will apparently cover Prince Harry’s entire life, including his childhood at Buckingham Palace and the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, up to the present, during which he has moved to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle, and children, Archie and Lilibet, and formally stepped back from royal duties. The family has been the subject of continuous public obsession—and ire—following their move, as well as after a momentous interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, during which the couple detailed the racism Markle faced as a part of the Firm.

The memoir will likely contain more bombshells amid the royal family’s ongoing PR crisis. In a statement released to the press, Penguin Random House said “Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story.”
The Duke of Sussex also released a statement about the news, saying: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story—the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned—I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”
He continued, “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”
That last line seems a not-so-subtle jab at the press, in particular British tabloids that have sensationalized the Sussexes’ exit from royal life. Omid Scobie, a royal reporter for Harper’s Bazaar, reported that the memoir does not yet have a title, and it will be simultaneously published as an audiobook.
