Parasite Director Bong Joon-ho Is Quickly Reaching Legendary Status

Culture

Parasite is far from South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s first big movie, but after last night’s Oscars—where the feature took home some serious hardware—it’s safe to say it’s earned its place in film history.

The anti-capitalist thriller took home four statues Sunday night, including Best Director for Bong. It also became the first non-English film to win Best Picture, beating out contenders like 1917 and Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood. The movie also won Best International Feature, making Bong the first to win in the category since it was renamed last year. (It was previously called Best Foreign Language Feature.)

Twitter was elated for the director and the whole cast, in part because everyone involved in the film seems genuinely lovely and immensely talented. In the wake of Parasite‘s four wins, a number of ultra-charming stories have surfaced to drive that point home, particularly about Bong. Here are some of our favorites.

He got lit celebrating his big wins.

He made his Oscars kiss.

His son is also humble and talented.
