Leonardo DiCaprio and Camila Morrone’s Complete Relationship Timeline

Culture

Leonardo DiCaprio is no stranger to a secretive relationship. Most of his romances over the years have been kept relatively quiet, outside of the occasional paparazzi spotting. However, his current relationship with 22-year-old actress Camila Morrone has been going strong since December 2017. (He’s even been caught playing Instagram boyfriend a few times.) Below, a timeline of their low-key love and what she’s said about their two-decade age difference.

December 2017: DiCaprio and Morrone were first linked after being seen shopping at Barney’s in Los Angeles on December 16. According to an Us Weekly source, the pair was “hooking up.” However, a second source told the outlet that the two were merely family friends. DiCaprio has been close with Morrone’s stepfather Al Pacino, who is with her mother Lucila Sola, for a decade.

Rumors of their relationship came months after DiCaprio’s May split with model Nina Agdal. Speculation continued to circulate when The Daily Mail spotted DiCaprio leaving Morrone’s Los Angeles home the same month. Toward the end of the year, they were seen skiing on the same Aspen vacation.

April 2018: Months later, E! captured the couple showing PDA at Coachella. While there, the pair reportedly watched performances from Beyoncé and Eminem.

August 2018: This month, the duo was spotted on a European vacation together. A source told E! about the relationship between DiCaprio and Morrone. “Things with Leo and Cami are going very well. Leo really likes Cami and they spend a lot of time together,” the source said. “She’s got a great, spunky personality that Leo is drawn to and she’s obviously gorgeous. All Leo’s friends like Cami too. She’s just a low key, cool girl.” The insider added, “Overall they have a very relaxed relationship.”

The first source said that DiCaprio regularly spends time with Morrone’s family and that her mother was on the trip with the two. But a second source said, “Leo’s living the good life and thoroughly enjoying himself. He’s never too serious about anyone. He’s happy and leaves it at that. He doesn’t future hop or get too far ahead of himself. They are having a great summer together and it is what it is.”

November 2018: Nearly a year after the pair was first spotted together, E! reported that Morrone and DiCaprio were “getting more serious.” A source said, “They’ve been inseparable for the last year and are crazy about one another. They’ve gotten to know each other’s families, and they love being together.”

However, before wedding speculation could begin a second source said, “Marriage is definitely not a discussion yet. He is very serious with Cami and has been for a while now, but marriage is not something that is on the horizon.”

Still, the same month Us Weekly ran a report that claimed a proposal was possible. “They’re very serious and in love,” Us‘s source said. “They’ve talked about getting engaged.” Reportedly, “he’s never loved a girl like this.”

In a rare public sighting, the pair attended the UEFA Champions League Group C match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Liverpool FC in Paris.

January 2019: Entertainment Tonight reported that Morrone and DiCaprio spent New Year’s together. She even shared photos of herself at Ko Phi Phi Le, an island off the coast of Thailand where DiCaprio filmed 1999’s The Beach.

April 2019: The Daily Mail spotted the couple attending Coachella for the second year in a row.

May 2019: Per People, the pair were spotted wearing matching outfits while walking hand-in-hand through NYC’s Meatpacking District. Earlier that month, a meme was born when photos emerged of DiCaprio dutifully snapping pics of Morrone at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France. In the photos, Morrone can be seen expertly posing in a polkadot dress while DiCaprio acts as Instagram boyfriend.

Morrone and DiCaprio were both in France for the Cannes Film Festival, but she attended the premiere of her indie Mickey and the Bear solo. Meanwhile, he walked the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood premiere red carpet alongside Quentin Tarantino, Margot Robbie, and Brad Pitt.

July 2019: People provided an update on the couple of more than a year. “They seem pretty serious,” a source told the outlet. “It’s definitely not a casual relationship. Camila spends a lot of time at his house.” The source even claimed that Morrone had met members of DiCaprio’s family. “Camila is long known as Leo’s girlfriend. And Leo introduced her to both of his parents long ago,” the insider said.

During the same month, Morrone posted vintage black-and-white photos of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. She captioned the picture of the couple, who shared a 25-year-age gap, “A love like this.”

Some interpreted that move as commentary on her romance with DiCaprio, who at 45 is 23 years older than her. Considering that Morrone fits the mold of his typical dating history (that is, models younger than him), backlash ensued. She took to her Instagram Stories to defended her relationship against haters.

She later told the Los Angeles Times, “There’s so many relationships in Hollywood — and in the history of the world — where people have large age gaps,” adding, “I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date.”

October 2019: Morrone may have referenced DiCaprio during an interview with Vanity Fair. When asked about her ideal date night, which may or may not include the Oscar winner, she said: “A great movie, an Italian dinner, and my glass of house Cab. That’s the only thing I know how to order at a restaurant because I don’t know anything about wine.”

She was also asked about the memes inspired by pap pics of DiCaprio photographing Morrone in Antibes. “Poor thing, he’s being called an Instagram boyfriend,” she joked. “He’s an environmentalist and a movie star and it doesn’t mean a thing!”

November 2019: Vulture also asked Morrone about her decision to address criticism over her relationship on IG. She said, “I didn’t even think about it beforehand. I probably should have. [Laughs.] I’m kind of impulsive in that way. I just woke up one morning and happened to look through my comments, which I never do because I never feel good after I do. I was just thinking about it and I said what I was thinking: There’s so much hate on the internet and it’s so unnecessary.” She added that she “probably won’t address” the comments again. “I’ve learned more and more to just protect myself and avoid things that’ll hurt my feelings.”

December 2019: During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Morrone opened up about perceptions concerning her relationship. She explained that she understands fascination around the romance: “I probably would be curious about it too.” However, she said she was hopeful that more focus would shift to her professional work as an actor. “I think more and more now that people are seeing the film (Mickey and the Bear), I’m slowly getting an identity outside of that,” she explained. “Which is frustrating, because I feel like there should always be an identity besides who you’re dating. … I understand the association, but I’m confident that will continue to slip away and be less of a conversation.”

Nearly two years after their first Aspen outing, DiCaprio and Morrone hit the slopes once more just before Christmas.

January 2020: People reported that the couple of more than two years rang in the new year in St. Bart’s. Page Six even captured photos of DiCaprio showing off his IG boyfriend skills while on the beach.

Next up, DiCaprio will attend the Golden Globe Awards on January 5, where he’s nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Considering the couple has yet to go IG official, it’s hard to imagine they’ll walk the red carpet together. So here’s to our next glimpse of DiCaprio’s IG prowess.
