Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have arrived at their first joint event since their royal tour of southern Africa wrapped up earlier this month: the WellChild Awards. Meghan rewore the green Parosh dress she wore during her engagement interview with Prince Harry to the ceremony tonight—a special touch for the evening from the Duchess. She paired the dress with her tan Sentaler coat draped over her shoulders. Harry, meanwhile, wore a navy suit and a blue tie alongside her.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were all smiles walking in, holding hands.
The work they’ve done tonight, coming off of their royal tour, is a literal testament to how far they’ve come since Meghan first wore that dress. And it could be Meghan’s subtle way of reminding her critics of that.
During their engagement interview in November 2017, Harry spoke candidly about how much he believed in his now-wife’s ability to do the work of a member of the royal family.
“The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned,” Harry said. “The fact that she’ll be really unbelievably good at the job part of it is a huge relief to me. We’re a fantastic team, we know we are, the more we hope to over time to try have as much impact over time on the stuff we care about.”
“As you said, the causes that have been really important to me I can focus more energy on,” Meghan added. “I’m excited to just really get to know more about the different communities here, smaller organizations working on the same [causes we believe in].”
Meghan has since become patron of SmartWorks, the National Theatre, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Mayhew just in her first year with the family. She released a best-selling charity cookbook and a capsule collection for SmartWorks that sold out quickly.
