Kate Middleton and Prince William have been spending the pandemic with their children at their Norfolk estate, Anmer Hall. In the past, Kate has spoken out about the challenges of being a parent to three young children in the middle of a global crisis. This week, during a video call with other parents, she revealed one more relatable pandemic parenting challenge.

“I’ve become a hairdresser this lockdown, much to my children’s horror, sitting up cutting hair,” she said, laughing.

The three other parents on the call all have children who attend school at Roe Green Junior School in Brent, England. Along with Kate, they participated in some exercises to describe what it’s like to parent right now. Each of the parents had to describe this time in one word. Kate chose “exhausting.”

“I know how challenging it is juggling work, home life, school life and everything else that you as parents are doing, so really well done,” she said, referencing the fact that the U.K. is now on its third national lockdown since the pandemic began. “Fingers crossed, let’s hope for the positivity as you’ve all been saying. Make sure everyone looks after themselves—it’s very hard to prioritize but it’s definitely needed now more than ever.”

During an interview for During an interview for the “5 Big Questions on the Under Fives” last November, Kate also opened up about yet another very common toddler-parent struggle: tantrums. Someone on the call asked the mom of three how she handles “toddler tantrums, especially with multiple children.”

Her answer? “Yes, that’s a hard one. I’d also like to ask the experts myself!”
