Where Is The Cast Of Broadway’s Hamilton Now?

Culture

After starring in a Tony, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical that became the hottest ticket in town and cultural phenomenon, there’s nowhere else to go but up. Hamilton‘s creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has become a household name, charismatic Twitter presence, and go-to visionary for Disney. Now, he’s poised to seize the pop culture landscape once more, as a filmed version of Hamilton hits Disney+. The show’s entire original cast will be joining him, including Tony winners Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Daveed Diggs and nominees Phillipa Soo, Christopher Jackson, and Jonathan Groff.

Ahead, here’s what the multi-talented ensemble has been up to since Hamilton, from leading hit Netflix shows to re-teaming with Miranda for In the Heights.

What hasn’t been said about Miranda’s post-Hamilton trajectory? After emotionally exiting the titular role on July 9, 2016, his dance card has been undoubtedly full. On the acting side, he’s co-starred in Mary Poppins Returns, appeared in HBO’s His Dark Materials, and will play a supporting role in the movie adaptation of his first musical In the Heights. He was nominated for an Oscar for writing Moana‘s original music, composed a new theme song for Netflix’s Magic School Bus Rides Again, and will pen more new songs for the live-action Little Mermaid. Miranda was also a producer on the Emmy-nominated FX series Fosse/Verdon, will direct an adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s tick, tick…BOOM!, and is working on a super-secret new Disney animated film.

When Miranda wasn’t singlehandedly keeping show-biz afloat, he dropped by the Broadway adaptation of Freestyle Love Supreme and helped shepherd a Hulu documentary about the improv musical group. Oh, and he mounted a special production of Hamilton in Puerto Rico and released a song for raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Maria. No word on what this man’s sleep schedule entails.

Odom Jr. was quietly making a name for himself as a musical performer prior to Hamilton, appearing in episodes of Smash and starring in Broadway’s Leap of Faith. But his career skyrocketed after his Tony-winning performance as Hamilton’s adversary Aaron Burr. Since then, he’s appeared in Murder on the Orient Express and starred alongside Cynthia Erivo in Harriet. Odom’s musical career is also continuing strong; he released a self-titled album shortly before leaving Hamilton in 2016 and debuted a Christmas record in 2018.

Groff exited the show officially in April 2016 but returned for the filmed version. Since his departure, he’s led Netflix’s Mindhunter, reprised his role as Kristoff in Frozen II, and performed Off-Broadway as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors.
