I’ll Watch Whatever Movie Sarah Paulson Cries or Screams In

Culture

Since we can’t depend on the Oscars to celebrate diverse and versatile acting, Film Twitter took it upon itself to celebrate those who “have the range.” And we can’t discuss range without mentioning the Sarah Paulson, who can literally play any role—the trailer for her new film Run proves that.

Any movie or show in which Sarah Paulson cries or screams (The People vs. O.J. Simpson, American Horror Story) is one I want to watch. In the first 10 seconds of the Run trailer, Paulson’s character Diane weeps as she looks at her baby in an incubator. I knew whatever followed would slappppp, and I wasn’t wrong. Run follows Diane, the extremely overbearing and overprotective mother of Chloe (Kiera Allen), who is disabled. “You do everything for me; you teach me, you cook for me. Am I a burden?” Chloe asks her mother, to which Diane replies: “I’m your mom. It’s my job to take care of you whenever you need me.” All seems well with this mother-daughter duo until Chloe discovers that her mother’s name isn’t Diane—and because this is a horror film, you already know what happens when a nosy child uncovers something that was meant to be kept hidden.

“Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp,” the film description reads. Towards the end of the trailer, Diane repeatedly says, “You need me,” as Chloe attempts to flee from her mother’s house before being thrown down a flight of steps. Oh, Chloe, what have you done?

Run arrives in theaters on May 8, just in time for Mother’s Day.
